The wood material used to manufacture our watches come from Africa. All wood is made of reclaimed and recycled Maple, Bamboo, Sandalwood and Zebrawood in order to contribute to the green earth and reduce the pollution from metal and rubber.
Ligglio watches are primary manufactured from:
Zebrawood - Native to West Africa, zebrawood offers a striking grain contrast and exceptional finish.
African Padauk Wood - Native to central and tropical west Africa, from Nigeria east to Congo-Kinshasa and south to Angola. It is a tree growing to 27–34m tall, with a trunk diameter up to 1m with flaky reddish-grey bark
Sandalwood - A class of woods from trees in the genus Santalum found in Africa. The woods are heavy, yellow, and fine-grained, and, unlike many other aromatic woods, they retain their fragrance for decades.
Olive wood - A hard and rich in color wood that is prized all around the world for its appearance, density, straight grain and fine texture.
Ebony - A dense black/brown hardwood, most commonly yielded by several different species in the genus Diospyros, which also contains the persimmons. Ebony is dense enough to sink in water. It is finely textured and has a mirror finish when polished, making it valuable as an ornamental wood.
Pine - Any conifer in the genus Pinus of the family Pinaceae. Pinus is the sole genus in the subfamily Pinoideae. The Plant List compiled by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and Missouri Botanical Garden accepts 126 species names of pines as current, together with 35 unresolved species and many more synonyms.
Maple - A genus of trees and shrubs commonly known as maples. The genus is placed in the family Sapindaceae. There are approximately 128 species, most of which are native to Asia, with a number also appearing in Europe, northern Africa, and North America.
Walnut - Walnut trees are any species of tree in the plant genus Juglans, the type genus of the family Juglandaceae, the seeds of which are referred to as walnuts
Amaranth - A genus of 23 species of flowering plants in the family Fabaceae; native to tropical rainforests of Central and South America and Africa.
Snakewood - A common name of several different plants: Acacia xiphophylla (family Fabaceae) in Australia. Acacia intorta, Acacia eremaea in Australia. Brosimum guianense (= Piratinera guianensis) (family Moraceae) (Letterwood, Leopardwood) in South America, an exotic hardwood prized for its highly figured grain.
Bamboo - Bamboo is not wood, but a grass with no woody material in its stem. This grass that looks just like the bamboo fishing rods used by Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, only larger, is being harvested in a manner similar to trees. The round, hollow stem, with closed sections every foot or two, is sawn lengthwise into long narrow strips that are then made into rectangular-cross-section pieces that take out the curvature.
